Christmas is now upon us and I could not be any happier. For many people the Christmas season is a very festive and happy one filled with snow (if you are into that sort of thing), special joyful Christmas music, get-togethers with family members you haven’t seen in a while, and gift giving/getting. While all this is great, I instead would like to focus on the sheer magnificence and awesomeness of what happened at Christmas.
The birth of Christ is truly one of the most insanely joyful things to have ever happened. People had been looking towards this event since the beginning of time. This was the beginning of our salvation promised to us after Adam and Eve sinned when God said to the devil, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” (Genesis 3:15). A Savior would come and save us from our sin, but we did not know when. All the Old Testament believers had this Savior to look forward to coming to save them. They waited for years and years hoping he would come soon. “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14) And then it finally happened.
How exciting it must have been for those believers to realize that the Savior they had been waiting thousands of years for had finally come! God’s promise had come true in sending His Son to live a perfect live that we could not and die for us to take away our sins. “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8) He died and rose from the grave, sealing the victory for us over sin. And Christmas is where it all started. Thanks be to God for His great love for us!
